HOLOCAUST LEARNING UK – EALING SYNAGOGUE

On Wednesday 29 January 2020, Ealing Synagogue hosted local schools Brentside, Villiers and Cardinal Wiseman for a series of workshops on the Holocaust.  Guest speakers were Helen Stone, who spoke about her mother Emmy Golding; Emmy left Germany in May 1939 at the age of 25 to come to the UK on a domestic visa; and Harry Spiro, whose daughter Tracy Moses told his story of how he was separated from his parents at the age of 11 and was sent to three concentration camps.  He was the only member of his entire family to survive.  It was a highly successful day and the feedback from the schools was very positive.

EALING SYNAGOGUE CELEBRATES ITS CENTENARY

On Sunday 10 November 2019, Ealing United Synagogue rounded off a spectacular year of events marking its Centenary with a dinner for 200 members, former members and the generation who grew up in Ealing, at the Holiday Inn-Brentford Lock.  Members of the Assersohn family, grandchildren of David Assersohn, one of the joint founders, were among the guests. Trevor Asserson came from Israel to share memories of his grandfather.  The Chief Rabbi spoke of Ealing celebrations past, including the one when the roof fell in, but also of its characteristics as a caring community with a welter of social, cultural and educational activities. He invested long-serving Warden, Dr Brian Robinson, as Elder of the Synagogue, presenting him with a certificate marking a donation by the Synagogue in Brian`s name to Langdon. Michael Goldstein, President of the United Synagogue described the high regard in which Ealing is held within the United Synagogue, particularly for the dignity with which it moved into its new shul. Before leaving, each guest was presented with a personalised album, consisting of one hundred years of memorabilia in the life of the community.  The spirit engendered by the evening will ensure that Ealing’s true grit will keep it going, despite being outside the North West London bubble, for many a year to come.  Click here to see more photos.
