Now, while I enjoy that Red Dead Redemption 2 has built in so many things that force you to slow down, I think it’s important to note that this probably isn’t something I would want to see from every video game in existence. Trust me, I enjoy how streamlined most other games are now as much as the next guy. But in Red Dead Redemption 2 , I think I’ve started to see early on in my playthrough the larger purpose that Rockstar has with all of these added elements to the game.

Each and every GTA instalment has their fair share of lovable, but stupid characters. You know, the ones who cause more trouble than they’re worth, but we can’t stay angry at. Well, in GTA IV , they started to put a heavy social element into our main character’s life, helping to create a very realistic world in which you can hang out with the associates you’ve met along the way. This meant that a number of social mini-games became available to us. That being said, there was nothing more irritating than being constantly badgered by Roman about bowling, so much so that his irksome requests became somewhat of an internet joke. Think about it, you’re in the middle of a mission and your car is being peppered by bullets. Warding also comes in as one of the fundamentals of the game. What if the enemy team is doing the objective at the time? Surely you have the timer access but how would you know that they aren’t just there to pull out a team fight and then to just secure the objective? Having map awareness is a key but you cannot see what’s happening in the fog of war. After a few days John is good enough to start helping around on the ranch like any gunslinger who recently received a near fatal wound would. While Red Dead Redemption 2 is clearly a game that we think highly of here at DualShockers , it’s not one that is infallible by any means. In fact, since its release this past Friday, the most common complaint that I have heard not only from some of my friends but fellow writers here at DualShockers is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is far too slow and plodding. Even after getting past the game’s initial opening hours and having the world start to Open World Games beginner guide up, traveling from one location to another takes far too long, animations are too slow, and there’s not the typical intuitiveness that streamlines many of the systems and mechanics that you might find in other open-world games.

In a time where open-world games are a dime a dozen, my problem with most titles in the genre is that they rarely force you to engage with the world that has been laid out. Instead, developers just use the confines of an open-world to place the structure of their game inside of, because it’s the normal thing to do more often than not nowadays. Simply existing in an open-world though isn’t enough when you don’t feel any sort of connection to the environment that you’re within. Forcing you to explore and take your time in the world allows you to get to know the area which you find yourself in. This is something that I think The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did so perfectly last year , and it’s something that I think finds success here in Red Dead Redemption 2 as well.

Basically, mechanics are what makes the game you play more transparent. Understanding the game takes a lot of time and it does not have to begin with you going through a crash course about it. Just try to understand the basics of the game, for example, every MOBA game has some sort of slang every now and then and learning it can be useful so you can follow it in the future. Also, understanding how the game works, how to farm and how to utilize the map etc. is also very important. Once you have grasped the basics of the game, then you can move on to the next stage in which you actually implement all of your knowledge into the game. It can be overwhelming at first but once you get a good grip, you will have a lot of fun while being pro at
